A systemic carbamate insecticide that acts by contact and as a rapid-acting stomach poison. It is highly toxic, with an LD50 of 17 mg/kg. Despite its high toxicity, the pre-harvest period for treated crops ranges from 31 days. In the United States, it is between one and three days, depending on the application rate, for tomatoes, citrus fruits, carrots, cabbage, beans, peas, and cucumbers. It is approximately seven days for barley, 14 days for garlic, and 30 days for pomegranates, sorghum, and soybeans. It is also applied to sugar beet and salad lettuce. The most important insects it controls:
Bollworms on cotton, tomatoes, corn, and tobacco - corn stalk borers, aphids, thrips, alfalfa beetles, cutworms and green nematodes, cucumber beetles, flea beetles, forest weavers, citrus whiteflies and some scale insects, and grape berry worms.
The most important crops it is used on:
Squash, wheat, strawberries, potatoes, peanuts, peaches, onions, watermelons, eggplant, peppers, cauliflower, and apples.
Warnings and Notes:
– This pesticide is toxic to fish, birds, and wildlife.
– Stop spraying when there is air that can carry the spray to other areas.
– It is also toxic to bees, so spray during periods when bees are least active.
– It can cause reddening of cotton leaves if too much of the spray solution comes into contact with them or if sprays of this pesticide are exchanged with another pesticide.
- It is not recommended for use on some apple varieties, such as Macintosh and Wealthy.
- Some hybrid corn varieties are sensitive to this pesticide.
