The Prophet urged people to supplicate, and he said that it is the worship of God Almighty, so he said: Supplication is worship [narrated by Al-Tirmidhi].
In another narration by Al-Tirmidhi as well: “Supplication is the essence of worship; Therefore, the Muslim is keen to supplicate, and draws closer to Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, through it.
The Muslim knows with certainty that he is supplicating to Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, the Responsive: {Is he who answers the distressed one when he calls upon Him and removes evil and makes you successors upon the earth? Does he have with Allah? Little do you remember?} [An-Naml: 62]. The Muslim does not say: I supplicated to Allah and He did not answer me, because he is certain that his supplication has inevitably achieved something in several ways. It is either that it is answered for him, so Allah, the Almighty, fulfills his need that he wants, or Allah, through such a supplication, removes from him a calamity that was about to befall him, or Allah, the Almighty, saves it for His believing servant in the Hereafter, so he is given good deeds on the Day of Resurrection equivalent to the answering of this supplication for him... and at that time he will wish that Allah, the Almighty, had saved He has all the prayers until the Day of Resurrection.
