Dermatologists recommend using approximately one ounce (30ml — a full shot glass amount) of sunscreen to cover the entire body. Most people apply only 25–50% of the recommended amount, significantly reducing the actual SPF protection received. Apply generously and evenly to all exposed skin, including often-missed areas like the tops of feet, ears, and back of the neck.

Reapply body sunscreen every 2 hours during outdoor activities, and immediately after swimming, towel-drying, or heavy sweating — even if using a water-resistant formula. In Egypt's intense summer sun at the beach, setting a timer for reapplication is the most reliable way to maintain continuous protection throughout the day.

SPF 30 blocks approximately 97% of UVB rays; SPF 50 blocks approximately 98%. The difference seems small but is meaningful for prolonged sun exposure. SPF 50 is recommended for beach days, water activities, outdoor sports, and fair-skinned individuals. SPF 30 is sufficient for incidental daily sun exposure during normal urban activities.

Spray sunscreens are equally effective when applied correctly and generously. The most common issue with spray sunscreens is underapplication — spray until the skin appears evenly wet, then rub in to ensure complete coverage. In windy beach conditions, spray into your hand first and then apply to ensure the product reaches the skin rather than blowing away.
