Product details

Arabic prose has remained obscure in literary studies compared to poetry, and prose genres have not been addressed with the in-depth analysis that Arabic poetry has received. While the research revolved around Arabic prose in general or was limited to the literature of a particular environment, prose phenomena were not presented in a deep, systematic analytical manner. Unlike rhetoric, which received widespread scholarly attention, written prose remained in dire need of comprehensive studies that would highlight its artistic and aesthetic implications. Although there are some prose materials in the Arab heritage, studying them and discovering their aesthetic value still requires investigation. This study attempts to contribute to this trend, aiming to rediscover written prose by analyzing the literature of the Umayyad era, which represented an era rich in political and religious tensions. This era witnessed a development in the art of speech, as the written word became a decisive weapon in the intellectual and political conflict, which gave written prose a prominent place in the intellectual life of the period.
