To select well, consider the required length, diameter, and resistance. In this selection, you’ll see hoses ranging from 25 to 100 meters and a common diameter of 1/2 inch. Look for a multi-layer construction (3 or 4 layers) and a typical pressure resistance of 15 bar, with an operating temperature range of -10 to +50 °C and protection from sunlight. Expandable (retractable) hoses offer great flexibility, but check that they can return to their original length after use.

The biggest complexity is comparing rigid vs. expandable hoses, and evaluating the protective layers. A rigid 1/2 inch hose provides a sturdy construction with 3 or 4 layers, ensuring durability and pressure resistance. Expandable hoses, often featuring a reinforced outer sleeve and a coiled design, offer greater flexibility but require special attention to storage and length when fully extended.

For irrigating large areas, a 100-meter hose is often preferred so you can cover wide spaces without frequent extensions. For household use or DIY projects, shorter lengths (25–25 meters) are usually enough and work better in smaller areas. Expandable hose models are ideal for repeated home uses like gardening, car washing, or household cleaning, and they’re easy to store.

Store hoses away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight to protect materials. Regularly check the integrity of the layers and avoid excessive twisting that could damage the seal. When not in use, expandable hoses retract and take up less space, but make sure they aren’t exposed to sharp objects or conditions that could damage the coating.

Choose compatible accessories in 1/2 inch for couplings and ends. Some models have reinforced sections and resistance for high-pressure needs, with options for extension hoses and adapters. Ensure the hose is suitable for your tool or equipment, and check gaskets and connectors to prevent leaks. Finally, consider weight and ease of handling based on how you plan to use it to make work easier.

Expandable hoses can increase their length by several times from their initial state, making storage easier and helping you reach distant areas without extensions. Their protective outer sleeve and lightweight build make them convenient for daily garden and household tasks. That said, you still need careful storage to avoid deformation or pinching, but they remain very practical for both home and professional spaces.
